Response to Quality of Life of Seniors Report Presented at Region

May 17, 2007: This morning, the Halton Regional Public Health Department presented its response to the report The Quality of Life for Seniors in Halton, A Guide for Future Planning. The report was produced by a task group of the Elder Services Advisory Committee chaired by Corinne Hodgson, a long-term ESAC volunteer.

The report, a comprehensive analysis of the physical, mental, financial and social health and well-being of seniors, had been previously presented and approved by the Halton Regional Council and its Health and Social Services Committee. In his forward to the report, Regional Chair Gary Carr states that the document “will help governments and organizations to advocate for programs that are sustainable based on an aging policy that reflects the kind of life we want for our parents, our grandparents, ourselves and our children.” The Region has pledged to include the document in its planning process.

“It was a long and complex process to produce the report,” says Hodgson of the 90-page document. “It was a truly participatory project. My expertise lies in finding statistics and the members of ESAC were able to take those numbers and turn them into progressive recommendations for change.”

Hodgson has been a volunteer member of the Regional advisory committee for over three years. She is slated to become chair of the Research and Policy Sub-committee in Fall, 2007.
